I though that clouds would be easy, I would eventually buy some assets and go, but that was not the case. 3 days fighting with clouds and here is the result. Everybody knows that tropical storms can be dramatic and I want to have those in my game.  I tested several solutions: Toz Clouds: this thing is looking good in the demos, but in practice it was really awful in game. Trashed. Volumetric Clouds: ok but the shape is more […]

Sound Fx 3D spawning

Since I want to have a procedural world, I also decided to use World Creator to spawn sounds. I would use some specific species of tree to handle a corresponding sound. For example Bamboo have sounds with water, and high trees, have more windy sounds. The result is dynamic 360 degree soundscape that is as complex and diverse as the procedural is visually. Put your headphones on and look at the video!

The Elite / Starting Pod

One Publisher “Barking Dog” has made an amazing pack that is fitting exactly what I needed for the technology part of the game. The action take place in the future, after an almost total destruction of the world. Some survivors are isolated on an Island in East Asia. So there are mutants because of the Radiations, but also they are gone down to the medieval times because nothing is working. However, there are some machines that are still self maintaining […]

Helas, too many people have done things with this name and it would not be possible to find it on the web because too generic. Then I though, “since it will be heavily inspired by the city of Pattaya, I should call it something like Yattapa”. My first research for a logo convinced me that it was a bad idea. Then slowly I though “I waited so […]

Of course it is just a starting, but the main assets are here. uSky for the clouds, the sun shafts, the atmospheric scattering. The water is temporary AQUA since I will change that later, I need to have underwater and waves which AQUA lacks of. I […]

Introduction If you want to make a great environment you have to carefully choose the tool that you are going to use, because there is no turn back. So my choices when I start working on that project in 2016 was Terrain Composer, Map Magic, Gaia and World Creator. I played with all of them and after many tests I finally choose World Creator. The evaluations   Terrain Composer: not intuitive enough for my taste, good for very large terrains […]

Welcome, introduction

Welcome to this blog where i will post my long journey into making a video game. You may think, “this guy is doing his first video game, nah! Another dreamer!” In reality, this will not be my first, but I haven’t made a video game for +20 years, and so it is something I have thought and prepared for a long time. I had a carrier in the video game industry  in the 80/90’s where I published several small games […]
